As March ushers in spring, our team is reminded that even the coldest seasons don’t stay that way forever. The first few months of 2026 have been a lot to say the least, especially in our home of Minneapolis. The four of us continue to find purpose in our sustainability work, groundedness in supporting our communities, and light amidst the darkness. We send that light out to you, too.

Melting Snow? Take a Waste Walk!

It’s that time of year when false spring makes her appearance, sometimes more than once. When the temperatures warm up and the snow melts away, it’s a great time to go on what we like to call a “waste walk.” Grab your dog, your kid, or just your own two feet - and pick up the litter peeking out of the snow as you take your walk. Not only does this clean up the immediate area, but prevents waste from entering our waterways through storm drains. The ripple effect of a waste walk is hugely impactful.

Solid Waste Operators Conference Presented by AWMA and SWANA MN/ND

Native Sustainability continues our Executive Administration role for the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) MN/ND Chapter. In February, we made our way up to the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn in St. Cloud, MN for the 16th Annual Solid Waste Operators Conference.

This event offers continued education for those working at landfills and recycling facilities throughout the region. Topics covered safe, effective, and compliant facility operations, as well as emerging issues. Interested in learning more? Reach out to us, or find more info on the SWANA MN/ND website.

Client Highlight:

Waste Reduction & Innovation Grant (WRIG)

We are working in collaboration with our friends at Sustainable Synergy Solutions and North Star Sustainability to conduct outreach and project management for WRIG grants, facilitated by Ramsey/Washington R&E. These grants are focused on measurable and replicable waste reduction and innovation projects. They are available for businesses and non-profits in Ramsey and Washington Counties; up to $50K to advance these types of projects. We'd love to talk further if you know anyone who may be interested.
